Artist on the Come Up: Toast

Toast is an upcoming artist in the Canadian music scene and he’s bringing a unique style and flavour with him. His exclusive style of rapping, singing, and performing is to be respected. He calls himself Toast, because like a toast, his songs are well thought out, short meaningful words meant to pay tribute, encourage, and inspire.

Toast was born Jovian Robotham on May 23, 1991 to a small family in Toronto. Toast grew up in Brampton where he discovered his love for music as a child. His love for music stems from his father’s love for music, who filled their home with music from many different genres including hip hop, reggae, and jazz. Toast had a particular interest in jazz, and grew to respect the art. Toast felt that although jazz music did not have lyrics, the sounds and melodies told a story. Toast decided he would create his own stories with the jazz melodies he was fond of. As Toast grew older, and more interested in rap music, he grew respect for the art form and the artist, however, he did not feel like he could relate to the lyrics of the artist on a personal level so he found his own inspirations and began to tell his own stories through rap music. Toasts stories’ and music is influenced by his life, family, peers, fans, and music.
Toast is not only a rapper, he is a true artist. His stories delivered through music paints pictures that fills the mind’s canvas. He inspires others through his music and encourages them to never give up on their dreams regardless of how crazy it sounds. His music is a sound of inspiration and it always tells a story. Toast shares his life experiences and his own inspirations into his music so his listeners could really feel him, be inspired, and understand his view that success is attainable but only if you’re willing to grind and put in the work necessary to achieve that success. There’s so much to be heard from Toast, so follow the breadcrumbs and you won’t be disappointed. Toast is live from the 905 and he doesn’t make believe— he makes believers!

Trouble didn’t kick in for Soupy until his teenage years. He started doing tattoos at the age of 17 which came with women, drugs, and money!

Soupy decided to turn his life around 3 years later by deciding to attend church and being baptized. That only lasted a few month before he was back in the streets even deeper than before. It was only finding out that he was about to be a father that made Soupy want to better himself.

Soupy then prayed to God with urgency and God heard his cry for help! Soupy believes God sent Dominique, which became his wife after two years, to introduce him to something more than just a church – Jesus Christ.
